Compton Academy is a small private school providing a model of instruction for students needing alternative education. Compton Academy provides instruction for grades 9–12 by incorporating curriculum provided from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Compton Academy is contracted with Texas Tech as a special project for the 2004-2005 school year. Students enrolled in the program will receive an accredited high school diploma from Texas Tech University upon completion of all requirements. The curriculum and resulting high school diploma is accredited by both The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and The Texas Education Agency. Students receiving a diploma through this program are eligible to attend any university they choose if they meet individual university entry requirements.   • SAT/ACT Scores
  • Extracurricular Activities (ex. Part-Time Job, League Sports, etc.)
  • Community Activities (ex. Volunteer Work, Church Involvement)
  • Difficulty of Course Selection (Foreign Language, Science, etc.)
  • Personal References
Each semester credit a student completes is composed from a specific number of graded units as well as a cumulative final exam for the semester. The graded units make up 75% of the final semester grade; the final exam counts as 25% of the final semester grade. A student must pass his final exam in order to receive a semester credit for any high school course.
Texas Tech Curriculum Fees
Students who attend Compton Academy are enrolled in the Texas Tech High School Distance Learning program. This program provides students with curriculum and materials needed to complete college preparatory coursework resulting in an accredited high school diploma. For all new students, there is a one-time application fee of $50.00. Each semester course is ordered at an approximate cost of $100.00 per course. In addition, the cost of books and materials can vary between subjects. The average cost of a textbook can run between $30.00 and $70.00. An itemized invoice will be provided prior to each order for courses.These fees are paid directly to Tech High School Texas Tech Curriculum Fees may be paid by check or credit card.
