Application Process
All prospective students will undergo an application process before enrolling in Compton Academy. This application process is to ensure that all students are appropriately placed in the school. The process begins with an initial conference including students and parents. During this conference, interviews will be held with parents and students to determine if Compton Academy meets the educational and social needs of the student. The next step in the process is to administer academic testing to assess the student's strengths and weaknesses. This assessment usually takes between two to three hours, depending on the age of the student. Finally, a follow-up conference will be held to discuss the results of the academic assessment. A written summary of scores and observations will be provided to students and parents during this conference. Pending results of the academic assessment, the student will be allowed to enroll in Compton Academy. Appropriate courses will be discussed and an academic timeline will be presented to represent the completion of the student's academic career.
Compton Academy offers an academic opportunity for a diverse set of students. Many students who have difficulty in larger classroom settings respond well to instruction in a small, structured environment where they feel comfortable and at ease with caring teachers. Students who attend Compton Academy may choose to graduate from the program or transition back into a larger, regular setting if appropriate. Continued feedback regarding a student’s progress, both academically and socially, is considered in future school placement.
